Vanderbilt has a new name worth putting in the notebook: Aiden Kearney announced his commitment on October 12, adding a highly ranked Florida infielder to the Commodores’ 2028 recruiting class.

That is a confirmed public commitment. It is not a signing announcement, and it does not make him part of the 2027 roster. Those distinctions matter when the next wave of recruiting news starts sounding like an opening-day lineup.

Vanderbilt: Aiden Kearney, class of 2028

The Tennessean’s Aria Gerson, in a report syndicated by AOL, confirmed the October 12 announcement and identified Kearney as Vanderbilt’s fourth 2028 commitment and its highest-ranked addition so far. Perfect Game’s No. 8 national ranking was cited in that report; rankings here are snapshots from the cited coverage.

Kearney attends Hagerty High School and is from Winter Park, Florida. Perfect Game’s showcase evaluation lists him at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, describes a right-handed hitter with bat speed and strength, and projects a possible move from the middle infield to third base.

That is the interesting part for Vanderbilt: a prospect whose appeal starts with offensive potential, rather than a commitment graphic alone. His eventual position and college role still need to be earned.

Tennessee: Ian Jansen and Hudson Oliver

The Volunteers added two position players within three days.

Ian Jansen announced Tennessee on October 6, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Emmett Siegel. The Cambridge Christian Academy infielder from Tampa was listed at No. 63 nationally by Perfect Game in the October 7 report. Siegel also reported a sophomore season of .385 with seven home runs and 26 RBI, citing MaxPreps.

Hudson Oliver announced his commitment on October 4. The Hoover High School outfielder from Alabama was ranked No. 45 nationally by Perfect Game in Vols on SI’s report, which also documented his speed and throwing tools using Prep Baseball measurements.

Two top-100 position-player commitments make this more than a busy week on social media. Tennessee added a reason to watch both its future infield and outfield, with development still ahead.

Oklahoma: Landon “Scooter” Bonner

One earlier-October addition also deserves attention. World Baseball Network reported on October 2 that Oklahoma had landed Bonner, citing Perfect Game’s No. 11 national ranking and No. 1 ranking in Texas.

The Hebron High School prospect’s Perfect Game profile lists Oklahoma as his commitment and identifies a left-handed-hitting shortstop with athletic defensive actions. For the Sooners, that is a substantial recruiting addition from Texas. It remains a future prospect story, not a promise of an immediate college starter.

Why these commitments matter

All four players belong to the 2028 high-school class. This is a look at future recruiting, not a revision of our 2027 preseason projections.

For Vanderbilt, Kearney gives us a specific offensive prospect to follow. Across the conference, Tennessee’s pair and Oklahoma’s Bonner show how quickly the next recruiting class is taking shape. Be excited about the talent. Leave room for the work.
