Missouri’s 2026 season contained moments worth carrying forward, but the overall assessment has to begin with last place in the SEC. The Tigers finished 24-31, and six conference wins left them well outside the NCAA tournament picture.

The season at a glance

2026 final record: 24-31 overall. SEC: 6-24. Conference finish: Sixteenth.

A late series win against Vanderbilt showed that Missouri could still compete when the season was winding down. The Tigers won the opener 8-7 in ten innings and the finale 4-1. It was a useful accomplishment, particularly because it came against another team fighting for its postseason position. It did not erase the accumulated losses around it.

How it ended

Missouri then upset Ole Miss 10-8 in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. Kaden Peer’s grand slam was part of a three-homer attack, and Jase Woita added his team-leading 13th home run. Mississippi State ended the Tigers’ season the next day with a 12-2 win in seven innings. The two Hoover games neatly illustrated the season’s unevenness: Missouri could hurt a strong opponent, but could not sustain the result.

What the season tells us

My takeaway is that the encouraging games should become a starting point for specific questions, not a reason to declare the rebuild complete. What made those wins possible, and how can Missouri repeat it across multiple weekends? The next team needs a more dependable conference baseline before a late upset can represent something larger than a bright spot in a losing year.
